The
eight gold stars on Alaska’s flag are significant of the wealth that
lies hidden in the state’s hills and streams.
Alaska’s official seal is an elaborate representation of the
state’s natural resources and economic assets.
The
Wisconsin State Flag depicts the state’s industry, including images of
a pick and shovel, and the state’s resources represented by a pyramid
of lead castings.
Wisconsin is known as the “badger state”, a reference to the
early day lead miners who took shelter in tiny underground burrows,
similar to wild badgers.
The
Nevada State Flag has a silver star representing the Nevada State
Mineral, Silver, and the wealth of its mineral resources within the
state.
Prior to Utah gaining statehood in 1896, the image of the beehive and the term “industry” were unofficial symbols of the region, paying tribute to perseverance, thrift, stability and self-reliance of its settlers and industry, which the mining of lead, silver, gold and copper played a pivotal role. |
